Every year, Grenoble Alpes welcomes nearly 60,000 students from over 180 countries. This year, Grenoble placed as the 5th best student city in France.
Located at the crossroads of majestic mountain ranges, the Grenoble metropolitan area offers an exceptional living environment, vibrant neighborhoods, a world-class innovation ecosystem, with a wide range of activities. In 2022, the city was awarded the European Green Capital Prize, recognizing its strong commitment to social and environmental transitions.
Grenoble Alpes Métropole warmly welcomes its new students with free passes and opportunities to enjoy unique experiences in the region.
This year, with more than 1300 students enrolled from over 30 countries, the "Bienvenue aux étudiants Grenoble Alpes" program has been a resounding success! Since September, 35 free events have been organized for students in Grenoble:

Enjoy a free ride on Grenoble’s iconic cable car, inaugurated in 1934 and one of the
world’s first urban cable cars. Travel from the city center to the Bastille Fort, a
emblematic site offering breathtaking views of Grenoble and the surrounding mountains.

Explore the mysteries of the Universe and Earth with Cosmocité! This science center in the Grenoble metropolitan area is dedicated to bringing science closer to the public. It makes the mysteries and challenges of the Earth, the universe and the environment accessible in a fun, interactive way. Win your pass and visit the center's exhibition and planetarium.
Enjoy a refreshing escape at Bois Français, near from Grenoble in the Grésivaudan valley, at the base of the majestic Belledonne and Chartreuse massifs. Treat yourself to an unforgettable day, alone or with friends, in a natural setting accessible by public transport from Grenoble.
Come and kayak at Lac Vercors, one of the lakes at the Bois Français nautical base, reserved for water sports. A sport combining safety, propulsion, transmission and balance. Sensations guaranteed! Take advantage of this exclusive opportunity to discover Bois Français and all its activities, and learn and practice kayaking in an exceptional natural setting.
The "Bienvenue aux étudiants Grenoble Alpes" initiative is open to first-year students enrolled in a higher education program in the Grenoble Metropolitan Area, upon presenting their 2024/2025 school certificate, and also to international students newly arrived at UGA or its associated institutions, GEM or ESAD can also apply with their 2024/2025 school certificate.
